An intriguing Halloween science fair, hosted by the Fredonia Chemistry Club, will be conducted in Science Center Room 322 on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 1 to 3 p.m.

“The goal of the event is to showcase the science behind reactions, get the public interested in chemistry and celebrate Halloween with science,” explained Mallory Thomas, Chemistry Club president and a senior Chemistry major.

A variety of experiments will be conducted in a science laboratory adorned with Halloween decorations.

In “Ghost Bubbles,” dry ice (carbon dioxide) is placed a vessel of water to create the look of a cauldron. From there, bubbles are created that appear to be filled with smoke. Two chemicals are mixed together and ignited in “Gates of Hell” so they expand rapidly and resemble fireworks that grow like live snakes. “Wizard’s Brew” will show a substance, also known as elephant toothpaste, oozing out of pumpkins.

Intended for visitors of all ages, the fair is free and open to the public.
