Area children meeting specific requirements are invited to audition for three roles in the spring 2011 production of “The Sound of Music” at the SUNY Fredonia.

The Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking three children for its spring production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. The three roles to be cast are: Kurt (age 9 to 12), Marta (age 7 to 9) and Gretl (age 5 to 7).

All girls auditioning must be between the ages of 5 and 10 and be less than 4’9” tall. All boys auditioning must be between the ages of 9 and 13 and be less than 5’2” tall.

In order to be cast, a child must be able to attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances. Rehearsals begin Jan. 31 and performances conclude April 9.

Auditions will be held starting at 2 p.m. sharp on Sunday, Oct. 3 in room G29 of Rockefeller arts Center at SUNY Fredonia. Those interested in auditioning should contact director Jessica Hillman in advance by email at hillmanm@fredonia.edu.

Those auditioning should come prepared to sing a few lines of any well-known song of their choice. Children must be able to read, as the audition will require them to read a few lines from the script.

Rehearsals will be held Monday through Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Children will not be called every day at the beginning of the rehearsal period and will be let go before 9 p.m. as often as possible.

On March 25, the rehearsal schedule will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. From March 27 to 29, the rehearsal schedule will be 6 to 10 p.m. or later. Performance dates and times are March 30 at 8 p.m., March 31 at 2 p.m., April 1 and 2 at 8 p.m., April 3 at 2 p.m. and April 7, 8 and 9 at 8 p.m.
