Welch’s/National Scholarships have been awarded to Alissa M. Cole of Dunkirk and Cole Gelen of Allegany. Both are students at SUNY Fredonia and each will receive $1,075 towards tuition for the 2011-12 academic year.

Welch’s and the National Grape Cooperative endowed the scholarship with the Fredonia College Foundation for academically meritorious students at SUNY Fredonia who are the children or grandchildren of the two organizations' employees or grower-owners.

At SUNY Fredonia, Gelen is majoring in public accountancy and finance, and Cole is majoring in childhood education with a concentration in English and Middle School extension.

Welch's is the world's leading producer of juices, jams and jellies made from Concord and Niagara grapes grown only in the U.S. and Ontario, Canada. The National Grape Cooperative consists of more than 1,000 patrons who supply Welch’s with its principal raw products – Concord and Niagara grapes – from more than 40,000 acres of vineyards in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Washington, and Ontario, Canada.
