On Saturday, March 5, the College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. David Rudge, will perform in King Concert Hall at 8 p.m.

The program begins with the powerful "Corlolan Overture" by Beethoven, and features voice faculty member Lynne McMurtry (mezzo) in "The Songs of the Wayfarer" by Gustav Mahler. She will also sing "Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen," considered by many to be Mahler's greatest song. Shostakovich's symphonic masterpiece, Symphony No. 5, will conclude the program.

Artist Bios:

Declared a young baritone to watch by numerous critics, Mark Diamond is turning heads with performances nationwide. Diamond gained particular notice in the summer of 2010 where he sang the role of Top in Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land at Glimmerglass Opera to rave reviews and was recipient of Glimmerglass Opera’s 2010 Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation. This season, Diamond made his Cincinnati Symphony debut as baritone soloist in Handel’s Messiah and was First Place Winner of the Eleanor McCollum Competition for Young Artists at Houston Grand Opera.
