Comedian Donald Glover, best known for his role as “Troy” on NBC’s hit comedy, “Community,” will perform a stand-up comedy routine in King Concert Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus on Friday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m.
The 26-year old actor, writer and musician began his career as a writer for NBC’s hit show 30 Rock while still a resident assistant at New York University (NYU). While at NYU, he studied improvisation and comedy writing with the Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre, improvising with such stars as “Saturday Night Live” cast members Amy Poehler and Horatio Sanz. During his time at “30 Rock,” the show won two Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series, as well as a Writer's Guild Award for Best Comedy.
Born in California on Edwards Air Force Base, he and his family moved to Atlanta when he was four. Growing up he studied drama and the process of writing short plays, which he continued at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
In addition to his current role on “Community,” he has performed numerous times on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and
“The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” in addition to completing his first stand-up comedy special for Comedy Central, which aired in March 2010.
Glover is one of the founding members of the internet sketch comedy sensation, DERRICK Comedy. The group’s YouTube channel has gained over 5 million views. In July 2010, Donald received the first-ever Rising Comedy Star of the Year Award at the 2010 “Just For Laughs” comedy festival in Montreal.
