FREDONIA, N.Y. — Nov. 5, 2008 — Several events highlighting the diversity of the world’s cultures will observe International Education Month at SUNY Fredonia with events Nov. 10 through Nov. 20 at various locations on campus. All students, faculty, and general public are invited to attend.
On Monday, Nov. 10, a presentation titled, “Anonymous Bilingual People: Indigenous People in Mexico and the United States” will be presented by Mario Lopez Gopar of Oaxaca, Mexico. The event will be held at 3 p.m. in room 105 of Fenton Hall. Light refreshments will be served.
On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Omar Nunuez Mendez of Oaxaca, Mexico, will offer a presentation titled “Myths, Magic, and Religion”. The presentation will be held in room 101 of Thompson Hall at 3:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. (More on this event>>)
Laila Denoya at Brown Bag Lunch
On Wednesday, Nov. 12, two events will be held for the International Education Celebration. The Brown Bag Lunch series will host Dr. Laila Denoya at 12 p.m. in S-104 of the Williams Center. Her presentation is titled, “developing Leaders for Global Enterprise.” The Women’s Student Union and the Chinese Club will be screening the Chinese film: “Luxury Car,” at 5 p.m. in Dier’s Recital Hall.
Info on Study Abroad program in France
On Thursday, Nov. 13, Jenn Spangenberg from the Institute for American Universities will be speaking about the Study Abroad program in AIX en Provence, France. She will begin at 12:45 p.m. in Room S-104 of the Williams Center.
Find out about Chinese Pop Music
An introduction to Chinese Pop Music will be held in Room S1-4 of the William’s Center at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14. Light refreshments will be served.
International Scavenger Hunt
On Sunday, Nov. 16, an international scavenger hunt will be put on in the Williams Center West Entrance at 2 p.m. Only 20 teams will be able to participate for the prizes that are to be awarded.
John Staples to talk on Russia at Brown Bag
Professor John Staples of the history department will be presenting on “Russian Conversations” for the Brown Bag Lunch series on Monday, Nov. 17 at 12 p.m. in Room 127 of Fenton Hall.
Residence Halls decorate
On Tuesday, Nov. 18, there will be a “Cruise Around the World” beginning at 7 p.m., which is a self-guided tour of residence hall lobbies decorated to represent different cultures.
Fulbright Scholar Program Information
Wednesday, Nov. 19, will feature two events. Professor Ted Schwalbe of the communications department will present the Fulbright Scholar Program in S-104 of the Williams Center at 3 p.m. A Philippines Film: “The Bet Collector,” will be presented in S-104 of the Williams Center at 5 p.m.
West African Cooking Show and Dinner
On Thursday, Nov. 20, Faculty Student Association Chef Dean Messina will present a West African cooking show beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Horizon Room in the Williams Center. He will demonstrate the art of West African cuisine and participants will enjoy the meal he prepares. The cost is $22 and reservations are required by calling 716-673-3451.Students may use their meal plan or points. After the cooking show and dinner, an African drumming and dancing show will be put on in The Grind of the Williams Center at 7 p.m.
