The Criminal Justice club will host a Halloween-themed event for all students on and off campus on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
The session is designed to help students develop better awareness for self-protection; knowing both how to avoid being victims, and how to be better citizens. "Survival" tools, including self-defense skills and martial arts will be demonstrated. An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) discussion will also be held on how to recognize a peer who is intoxicated or drugged and best practices for responding to it.
In addition to emergency preparedness, there will also be presentations from STEPS on avoiding sexual assault and skits from the Improv acting troupe on better communication skills about sex. Lastly, demonstrations from the Counseling Center on alcohol awareness and bystander intervention, and tips from the University Police on preventing burglary and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) will close the event.
All students are welcome to come to share the fun, and learn how to be aware and act with respect. "PartySmart" wristbands, bumper stickers and window signs will be given out, along with refreshments. To learn more contact Dr. Melanie Pallone at pallone@fredonia.edu.
