Dan Berggren, retired communications professor who mentored numerous radio students, will be interviewed with his musical trio on the weekly campus radio program, High Noon Friday this week on Dec. 13 at noon. He will be interviewed and the trio will also perform on the program. He is in town for the concert at the 1891 Fredonia Opera House.

High Noon Friday will be 30 years-old next semester. According to Communications Professor Laura Johnson, that is a rarity in college radio. "Few student-run radio stations have locally-produced programming that has continued for 30 years," she said.

The show is broadcast on both student stations, WCVF 88.9 FM and  WDVL (internet station), and will be streamed live over the web via Live 365. To connect via the internet, go to http://fredoniaradio.com/ and click on the "Live 365" box on the right.

Dan is professor emeritus of audio and radio studies at Fredonia, where he received the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1992. In that same year the New York State Outdoor Education Association presented him with its Art and Literary Award. Dan was recognized in 2001 by St. Lawrence University as a Distinguished Alumnus, by the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks with its Heritage Award and most recently, he was the recipient of the Adirondack Mountain Club's Education Award.

A singer and songwriter, Dan's musical roots are firmly in the Adirondacks where he was raised.  Hearing stories and songs from local friends and neighbors, Dan has developed a style that captures the spirit of the mountains and can be heard on 15 albums featuring his songs produced by Sleeping Giant Records. He has entertained audiences throughout New York State, from Vermont to Kentucky and Texas, and overseas in the British Isles, Eastern Europe and Central Africa. Some of his songs have been symphonically arranged, giving Dan the opportunity to perform with orchestras in Fredonia, Ithaca, Syracuse, West Virginia and Indiana. His original music has been featured nationally on public radio and television, earning praise from near and far.
