David Kinkela, Ph.D. |
At the recent History of Science Society's annual meeting, Dr. David Kinkela of the SUNY Fredonia Department of History received the Forum for the History of Science in America Book Prize 2012 for his book DDT and the American Century, which examines the interconnections between U.S. environmentalism and U.S. foreign policy.
The prize committee stated Dr. Kinkela’s book was "among the finest, most well-written, pieces of historical scholarship that any of us has encountered in recent years...We were all taken by the fluidity with which Kinkela masterfully integrates insights drawn from different threads of historical analysis. Environmental history, the history of science, the history of technology, the history of medicine, and diplomatic history are all tightly interwoven throughout his book."
The book was published in November 2011 by University of North Carolina Press.
Kinkela’s current research focuses on the history of U.S. environmental politics in a global age. His teaching interests explore many of the same themes as his research.
Kinkela is Director of the Honors Program and a associate professor within the Department of History at SUNY Fredonia.
