Delia Wallis, a member of the Fredonia School of Music faculty, died Sept. 15, 2009. The School of Music held a memorial gathering for her on Thursday, Sept. 17, where she was remembered as a "remarkable and beautiful person."
From 1999 to 2006 she taught voice at Fredonia as a fulltime faculty member, and since then, had been on the adjunct faculty.
Ms. Wallis had an international career spanning more than 30 years, singing in opera, concert and recital. She was born in England and at a young age was a member of the Welsh National Opera Company.
She performed wiith many of the world's major symphony orchestras, notably the London Philharmonic, London Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic; also the orchestras of Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal. Among the conductors she has worked with are, Sir Adrian Boult; Carlo Maria-Giulini; Erich Leinsdorf; Sir Georg Solti; Andre Previn; Gerard Schwarz; Roger Norrington; James Levine; Sir Andrew Davis; Sir Neville Marriner and Wolfgang Sawallisch. She recorded for EMI Classics.
