The Fredonia State women defeated four other NCAA Division III track and field teams Saturday to win the Carnegie Mellon Mini-Invitational at Gesling Stadium.

The Blue Devils earned 152 points while Allegheny finished second with 130 points. Dennison, Carnegie Mellon, and Waynesburg also received team scores.

Junior throwing Nicole Desens (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led the Blue Devils by winning two events and finishing third in another. She set meet records on the discus (127' 5") and the shot put (37' 8.75"). She was third in the hammerthrow. In addition, she was named SUNYAC Female Field Athlete of the Week.

Other Fredonia State individual winners –and meet record-setters – were sophomore Anna Dambacher (Divernon, Ill.) in the 400 meters with 60.26 seconds, and sophomore Laura Morrison (Wethersford, Conn.) in the 800 meters at 2:20.53. Dambacher was named SUNYAC Track Athlete of the Week.

Senior jumper Emily Cummiskey (Clarence, N.Y.) had second-place finishes in the long jump and the triple jump. Also, Dambacher was second in the 200 meters, senior Alexis Perez (Hamburg, N.Y.) second in the 100 meters, and senior Loren Metzger (Fairport, N.Y.) second in the hammerthrow.

Three Fredonia State men won individual events Saturday at the Carnegie Mellon quad meet.

Sophomore sprinter Jeremy Kozlowski (Dunkirk) won the 200 meters in 23.10 seconds. He was also second in the 400 meters in 52.22. In addition, he was named SUNYAC Male Track Athlete of the Week.

Senior jumper Brian Ogilvie (East Aurora, N.Y.) set a meet record with a winning long jump of 21' 4.75". He was selected ECAC Male Field Athlete of the Week for the NCAA Division III in the Upstate region, and SUNYAC Male Field Athlete of the Week.

Sophomore sprinter Eric Williams (Batavia, N.Y.) won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.65 seconds.

In addition to Kozlowski, three Blue Devil men finished second in individual events: freshman Brian Farfaglia (Lockport, N.Y.) in the high jump, senior Ben Goebel (Victor, N.Y.) in the pole vault, and senior Alex Brennan (Wilson, N.Y.) in the long jump.

The Blue Devil men finished fourth out of five NCAA Division III teams. The meet also included NCAA Division I Pittsburgh.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday, April 5 at the University of Rochester Alumni Meet.
