The Council for Women’s Concerns at Fredonia presents:
Closing The "Mommy Gap" Recognizing and Eliminating Barriers to Mothers' Full Participation in the Labor Force
Monday, April 27, 2009
11:30am to 12:30pm
William Center S-121
Presented by Dr. Ingrid Johnston-Robledo
Director of Women’s Studies,
SUNY Fredonia
“In this presentation I will address the myriad ways women employees struggle in their attempts to integrate work and family, with special emphasis on issues unique to women working in academic environments. What are the consequences to women’s careers, psychological well-being, and families when they are not adequately supported in their efforts to achieve this balance? I frame this as a public as opposed to a private dilemma, one that needs to be addressed through comprehensive family-friendly workplace policies such as options for altering the tenure clock, access to affordable daycare, flexible work schedules, and paid family leave. A discussion concerning ways to address this complex issue on our campus will follow.” Dr. Ingrid Johnston-Robledo
