The College of Education at SUNY Fredonia has implemented a new dual certification program in Childhood Inclusive Education that prepares candidates to teach all students in grades one through six, including those with special needs.
Students who successfully complete the program will earn two teaching certificates for grades one through six, one in Childhood Education and the other in Childhood with Disabilities. The program can be completed within four years.
Candidates for the dual certification must do the following:
- Successfully complete additional coursework on assessing and teaching students with disabilities in general education settings
- Pass two New York State content specialty tests including childhood and special education
- Satisfactorily complete applied teaching projects with students with special needs.
Further details on the program can be obtained by e-mailing Pam Enser, coordinator of student services in the College of Education.
