Freedonia Enactus returned to Western New York recently with the winning title from the 2016 Regional Enactus competition in Atlanta, Ga. With this title, the group qualifies to compete in the 2016 National Exposition that will be held in St. Louis, Mo., on May 15 to 17.
During the regional event, Fredonia competed with 40 private and public colleges of all sizes to highlight the impact they had on their community. Winning and advancing to the national level means that Fredonia will compete against over 100 colleges and universities.
“After taking the judges feedback from the 2015 exposition, our team knew we had the ability to make it far in the competition, we just had to deliver our projects differently,” said Enactus President Benjamin Soto. “We are thrilled to be able to represent Fredonia in such a positive way.”
This year, the Fredonia team highlighted work done with local businesses and the creation of an online farmer’s market.
Fredonia’s Enactus team was divided into different groups: presenters, script team, prezi and the report team. The 17-minute presentation was delivered to a panel of Fortune 100 Corporate Executives by six Enactus members: Cora Abraham of Elmira, Luke Bartone of Lake View, Rebecca Leichter of Pittsford, Rachel Painter of Olean, Mary Plum of Victor, and Mr. Soto of Dunkirk, who all highlighted the work that the Enactus team, as a whole, has accomplished during the academic year. The team embarked on six projects that focused on a variety of different initiatives including decreasing the carbon footprint, healthy living, financial literacy and youth projects.
Enactus uses entrepreneurial action to make a social, economic and environmental impact in the community. Fredonia Enactus has over 80 student members from 22 different academic majors.
