An inaugural Mini Maker Faire, patterned after Maker Faires that draw together like-minded creative people who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and skills, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Williams Center and Science Center.

Participants, or “makers,” can encompass tech enthusiasts, crafters, homesteaders, scientists, chefs and garage tinkerers. What they share is a passion to showing off what they are making and sharing what they have learned.

The goal is to showcase a rich mix of makers ranging from crafters and homesteaders to scientists and inventors. More than 70 makers representing STEM fields and the arts are anticipated to participate in the faire.

The Fredonia event, to occur during the campus’ Homecoming weekend, is patterned after the original Maker Faire that was held nearly 10 years ago and spawned similar independently organized events around the world. Maker Faire, touted as the “Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth,” is intended to connect, entertain, inform and grow this community.

The Mini Maker Faire is free and open to the public, and there will be food trucks from Lomo Lomi, The Cheesy Chick, Chef’s and Mikey Dee’s.

More information can be found online.

The event is co-sponsored by the university, Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES, Make:makezine.com, the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Lumsden McCormick LLP, Dell and Kensington, with additional support from the Fredonia College Foundation’s Phyllis and Lawrence Patrie Endowment for the Sciences.
