Fredonia Place returns to sponsor the World Travel Series at Rockefeller Arts Center this season. The long-running travel-adventure film series at the State University of New York at Fredonia returns for its 28th season in 2010-11 and Fredonia Place will again serve as the series sponsor.

The World Travel Series, which features travel-adventure films personally narrated by the filmmakers, will be sponsored by Fredonia Place as part of the Lake Shore Savings at Rockefeller Arts Center.

This marks the fourth straight season that Fredonia Place, an enriched senior housing facility at 50 Howard St. that is known as the “jewel on the hill,” has sponsored the film series.

Rockefeller Arts Center Director Jefferson Westwood said he is pleased to have the continued support of Fredonia Place.

“The World Travel Series has been very popular with our patrons for many years,” Mr. Westwood said. “Thanks to the financial support from Fredonia Place, we can continue our tradition of bringing in some of the best filmmakers in the travel-adventure film industry.”

The 2010-11 World Travel Series will features three films, all of which begin at 7:30 p.m. in King Concert Hall.  “The Other Side of Mexico” with Fran Reidelberger started the season on Saturday, Sept. 25. 

The future programs are:

• “Northern Europe: Journey to Iceland, Norway, London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Russia, Poland and Prague” with Marlin Darrah on Saturday, Oct. 30. Shot in high definition, this film captures the great natural wonders, architectural treasures and cultural and artistic highlights of several cities and countries. Featured are the fjords, fish markets, art museums, cathedrals, lively pedestrian streets, great canals and bridges, palaces, parks and the fascinating Northern European people.

• “Ghost Towns of the Wild West” with Gray Warriner on Saturday, April 2. Also shot in high definition, this film explores ghost towns of the American West, including some that have been reborn. Highlights include traveling on a narrow-gauge railroad into the Rockies and the discovery of forgotten mining camps at the edge of alpine lakes.

Tickets for the World Travel Series are available through the Mix & Match Season Ticket plan, which offers savings of between 15 and 25 percent. Tickets may be purchased at by calling 716-673-3501 or by visiting the SUNY Fredonia Ticket Office in the Williams Center.

Tickets are also available at the door on the day of each event, with one child 12 and under admitted free with each paid adult ticket.
