A showing of “Suicide: The Ripple Effect,” a documentary that focuses on the devastating effects of suicide and tremendous positive ripple effects of advocacy, inspiration and hope that are helping millions to heal and stay alive, will be held at Fredonia on Wednesday, May 2, at 4:30 p.m., at the Science Center’s Kelly Family Auditorium.
The feature-length film highlights the story of 19-year-old Kevin Hines, who attempted to take his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Today, Mr. Hines is a world-renowned mental health advocate, motivational speaker and author who conveys his message of hope, recovery and wellness around the world.
Due to strong language and content, attendees under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult.
Community members are invited to arrive an hour before the screening for refreshments, mingling and to visit tables, arranged in the adjacent atrium, to be staffed by representatives from the Counseling Center, Chautauqua County’s Mental Health office and other agencies that will offer pertinent information. Tables will remain up after the screening for further discussion.
The film, which is free and open to the public, will also be shown at Jamestown Community College on Thursday, May 3.
Organizations supporting the screening include Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention, Fredonia's Division of Engagement and Economic Development, Jamestown Community College, The Resource Center, Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene and Chautauqua Tapestry.
