A campus invasion, of sorts, will get underway on Saturday morning, Aug. 19, the start of Move-In Weekend at Fredonia. That’s when students begin to check into their residence halls for the 2017-2018 academic year.

What they’ll find on Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be a move-in crew – comprised of 287 student volunteers from 11 campus groups and athletic teams -- who’ll help shuttle belongings to assigned residence hall rooms.

Also on hand to welcome students will be President Virginia Horvath, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Terry Brown, Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services Cedric Howard, Vice President for Finance and Administration Michael Metzger, Interim Vice President for University Advancement Betty Gossett and Vice President for Engagement and Economic Development Kevin Kearns.

Residence halls are open for check-in on both Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Students, who are to report to their residence hall upon arrival, will be allotted one hour to unload their vehicles in parking areas adjacent to their residence hall. Extended parking during the weekend will be available at the Lots 9A, 9B and 9C (along Ring Road, between Park Drive and University Village) and at Lot 19A (at the end of Resident Row, near Chautauqua Hall). Shuttle bus service will be provided between those parking lots and residence halls on Saturday.

What can or should students bring with them? Bedding, bathroom toiletries, desk and school supplies, bedroom items (such as alarm clock, bulletin board, fan, hangers and closet organizer), totes for under-bed storage, laundry supplies, any required medication and emergency first-aid kit. Small refrigerators, microwave ovens and rugs are acceptable.

Some items not permitted in residence halls include air conditioners, personal furniture, pets other than fish, hot pots and plastic-shaded lamps.

The following establishments will have limited operating hours during Move-In Weekend.

• Starbucks – Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Convenience Store -- Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
