Virginia S. Horvath, President

To celebrate the Inauguration of SUNY Fredonia President Virginia S. Horvath, the campus has scheduled a week-long series of events, most of which are free and open to the public. Highlights include the following:

Tuesday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m.: World-renowned environmental artist Christo presents a slide lecture in King Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public, but media should contact the office of Public Relations in advance and make arrangements to obtain a press pass. (Note: no formal press conference will be held.)

Wednesday, Sept. 19, 11:15 a.m.: Dr. Jean Kilbourne, feminist author, speaker and filmmaker, internationally recognized for her work on the image of women in advertising, speaks on “Deadly Persuasion: The Power of Advertising.” While she will not allow video or other recording devices at her 3:30 p.m. keynote address in King Concert Hall, a Press Conference will occur earlier in the day, at 11:15 a.m. in Room 103 B-C of the newly renovated Williams Center on the Fredonia campus.

Friday, Sept. 21, 2 p.m.: The official Investiture Ceremony of President Virginia S. Horvath as SUNY Fredonia’s 13th President. Numerous dignitaries and guests will be featured, including SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher. Student performances will feature the Fredonia Wind Ensemble and the Fredonia Chamber Choir.

Saturday, Sept. 22, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.: SUNY Fredonia’s Inaugural Day of Service. In response to a request by President Horvath — whose commitment to service has been evident since she first joined our campus in 2004 — hundreds of SUNY Fredonia students, faculty, staff and alumni will volunteer at more than 20 locations throughout Western New York. Organizations/locations such as the Buffalo Museum of Science, Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, Gowanda Historical Society, Lake Erie beaches, Springville Boys and Girls Club, the WCA Home in Fredonia, and many more will benefit from SUNY Fredonia’s physical and educational resources, as volunteers lend their brains and brawn to help these highly-regarded not-for-profit organizations advance their missions.
