"Law, Crime and Punishment in Austria" is the title of a new study abroad program being led this summer by Professor Daniela Peterka-Benton of the Criminal Justice faculty.
An information session on the three-credit course will be presented Monday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m. in Houghton Hall 101. Students must apply by March 1 and pay the course fee by March 15.
The trip to Austria will take place July 11 through the 22.
The program focuses specifically on the history and culture of Vienna/Austria, the history of crime and punishment and international and national organizations on crime and justice. Daily activities will include museum visits (Crime Museum, Sigmund Freud Museum, Torture Museum etc.), guided tours (Concentration Camp Mauthausen, Vienna City Tour, United Nations, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, correctional facility, US Embassy) and visits of exciting locations ("Third man" sewer tour, Viennese Coffeehouse, Prater amusement park), just to name a few.
While this program should be of particular interest to students in the areas of Criminal Justice, Political Science, International Relations, and History, the program is open to all interested students.
