Professor James Ivey, chairperson of the SUNY Fredonia theatre and dance department, will give a performance-based lecture titled, “Ancient Excursions and Renaissance Diversions: Trips to Europe and Beyond,” on Wednesday, April 4, at noon in room G-144 of the Williams Center. The event, part of the campus Brown Bag Series, is free and open to all campus and community members.
In the fall of 2006, Professor Ivey studied at the Scuola Internazionale dell’Attore Comico in Reggio-Emilia, Italy. His work with Antonio Fava in Commedia dell’Arte supplemented his previous training in the improvisational theatre form from Italy.
For the Brown Bag lecture series, Professor Ivey will perform characters from the commedia and discuss highlights of his travels to Italy, Greece, Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Austria.
Over his professional career, Professor Ivey has directed or acted in over 100 plays. He has performed leading roles in Man of LaMancha, Hello Dolly!, The Music Man, and A Little Night Music for such companies as the Goodman and Athanaeum theatres in Chicago; the Paramount Theatre in Abilene, Texas; and the Dallas Repertory Theatre and Theatre Three in Dallas, Texas.
The Brown Bag Lecture series, sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities at SUNY Fredonia, offers monthly informal talks featuring new creative and scholarly work by members of the faculty.
