SUNY Fredonia’s School of Music will host special guest guitarist James Marron in a performance at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28 in Rosch Recital Hall. The renowned guitarist/composer will perform his original works from his recording “Six Poems for the Angels,” which has been called “an impeccable CD of classical and neoclassical guitar music” by 20th Century Guitar Magazine.
Marron will also perform his composition entitled “Spring Rising,” as well as works by Nikola Resanovic and Roger Zahab. The recital is free and open to the public.
Establishing himself as an international performer, Marron’s career has taken him to Italy, France, and Germany. After graduating from the Manhattan School of Music, Marron co-founded the Marronprater Dance and Music Co., and has composed music for modern dance that has been performed in New York, Toronto, Colorado, North Carolina, New Jersey, and Ohio.
Marron has also appeared on public radio in “Live at Hochstein,” broadcast from WXXI in Rochester, N.Y. and “Not the Dead White Male Composer Series” on WCLV in Cleveland, Oh. Presently, Mr. Marron is on the music faculty of Ashland University as well as the University of Akron.
Marron composed “Six Poems for the Angels” having been inspired by the poems by Thomas Marron of the same title. Many of the works he performs paint a vivid picture in the minds of listeners, critics have said.
The Guitar Society of Rochester described Marron’s performances as “smooth and rather laid back, conveying the feeling of relaxed enjoyment...his affection for the guitar and its music fills the hall with warmth. Whether one is imagining the changing of the seasons or exploring one’s personal quest for happiness in life, Marron’s music succeeds in inspiring its listeners.”
