Dr. Jeanette McVicker, professor of English, presented a paper at the 11th Symposium on Comparative Literature at Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt on Nov. 13-15. The conference theme, "Creativity and Revolution," explored the status of the Egyptian revolution from the perspective of the arts, humanities and education.
McVicker's paper was part of a panel organized by former Fredonia history professor, Maurizio Marinelli (now at University of Technology, Sydney, Australia), and addressed the topic "Reimagining The Political Subjectivity of Youth: A View from the U.S."
Dr. McVicker has been a faculty member in the Department of English for over two decades. Her current research includes exploring the impact of U.S. news coverage on subjectivity, citizenship and democracy both in the U.S. and abroad, particularly since 9/11 and the “war on terror.”
