Bflo.Pnk.1.0

A film produced by SUNY Fredonia Associate Professor of Communication Elmer Ploetz will be showcased Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. in 202 McEwen Hall. The film, “Bflo Pnk 1.0,” is a video history of Buffalo’s early punk years. The event is free and open to the campus and community.

The film features artists such as Electroman, Enemies, Jumpers, Secrets, Pauline & the Perils, the George, Paper Faces, the Good and the Fems whom were all making a noise that far exceeded any commercial success that the bands enjoyed.

Inspired by nearby punk era icons in New York City, the film includes interviews with over 40 of the era’s icons, plus live footage, posters and photos.

The film will also be shown in Buffalo on Wednesday, April 13, at 4 p.m. during the Buffalo Niagara Film Festival (see Buffalo News article online), right after the presentation of a check for over $500 to the Food Bank of Western New York. All profits made from the film will be donated to the Food Bank.

The film has sparked a Bflo Punk 1.0 Facebook page that was named “Best Local of WNY-Related Facebook Page” in Buffalo Spree magazine’s 2010 awards (see online article>>). It has also been featured with screenings during the Buffalo International Film Festival and the Buffalo Infringement Festival.

After 28 years in the newspaper business, Elmer Ploetz joined the communication department to help start the journalism major. He has worked as a reporter and editor (the last 23 at The Buffalo News), but has also been involved in radio, Web development and video documentary.
