The first Social Science Colloquium of the Fall 2010 semester will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at noon  in W231 Thompson Hall. Dr. Junaid Zubairi of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences will be presenting. The title of his talk is, “Using Wireless Sensor Networks for Medical Emergency Data Handling.”

MEDTOC is a system defined by Dr. Zubairi for transmitting vital signs of patients using a cellular network. He received the support of the office of Graduate Studies and Research at SUNY Fredonia for building a wireless sensor network testbed for implementation of the medical data collection and processing phase of MEDTOC. In this talk, he will introduce MEDTOC, show its various components and present his initial achievements in implementing data aggregation, processing and transmission.

The Social Science Colloquium is being coordinated by Dr. Jack Croxton, Professor of Psychology. The event is free and is open to all students, faculty and staff, and community members that wish to attend. It has been sponsored by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences who will also be providing food and beverages.
