SUNY Fredonia has been ranked among the top 100 best values for public campuses in the nation by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine.  Fredonia ranked 61st as a value for students in New York State and 32nd for students out-of-state.  According to Kiplinger’s, the criteria used to rank the campuses are academic quality, cost, and financial aid.  The top 100 campuses were selected from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities.

Also this year, SUNY Fredonia was ranked 9th in the North among public colleges and universities by U.S. News & World Report in its 2006 college rankings.  Read the news release by clicking here.

The last time Kiplinger’s did a Best Values survey for public colleges was in 2003, when Fredonia was ranked 88th for in-state students. In the last three years, Fredonia has been more selective in its admissions as it has received more student applications, and the average SAT scores of its freshmen have risen as well. "We provide the kind of dynamic, nurturing environment usually associated with expensive, private colleges," SUNY Fredonia Dean Paul Schwartz said.

The other SUNY campuses which made the Top 100 list for 2006 were Geneseo (7), Binghamton (9), Stony Brook (35), Albany (46), University at Buffalo (77), Plattsburgh (84), and New Paltz (90).

“We are very pleased so many SUNY campuses have been nationally recognized for the quality of the education they provide and for the extraordinary value they represent,” said SUNY Chancellor John R. Ryan.  “Each and every day we work very hard to ensure that students continue to have access to a very high quality education at SUNY campuses.  I congratulate our campus presidents, students, faculty and staff for this recognition.”

The State University of New York is the largest comprehensive university system in the United States, educating more than 412,000 students in 6,688 degree and certificate programs on 64 campuses.
