An article by Markus Vink, Professor in the Department of History, 'The Afrasian Mediterranean: Port Cities and Urban Networks in the Indian Ocean World', was recently published in the Journal of the Economic and Social History of the Orient 54:3 (2011). The journal is a Leiden-based ,internationally renowned periodical, published by Brill since 1958, with a world-wide readership, both individual and institutional, containing studies extending our knowledge of the economic and social history of what was once labeled as the Orient: the Ancient Near East, the World of Islam, and South, Southeast, and East Asia.
