“Jews are .001 percent of the world’s population…but we make a difference,” said Michael Davidson, sophomore political science major (Kenmore, NY) who is treasurer of the Jewish Student Union (JSU).
April is Jewish History Month and this year JSU will start the month with their 7th annual Matzo Ball on Tuesday, April 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Williams Center Multi-Purpose Room. The Twelve Corners Klezmer Band out of Rochester will be performing Klezmer Music, which is a traditional type of Jewish music from Eastern Europe. The band will also bring a dance instructor to teach everyone how to do traditional dances that accompany the music.
Falafel, which is a traditional Middle Eastern dish made of fried ground garbanzo beans (formed into bite-size balls), will be served in a warmed pita with a cucumber salad, and hummus with a side of French fries. The event is free and open to the campus and community. The next event is the Mel Brooks movie night is a new event for JSU. Co-sponsored with Spectrum Entertainment, this free event will be in the Spot Café in the Williams Center on Sunday, April 9 at 6 p.m.
A Mel Brooks’ film such as History of the World: Part I, will be shown. Mel Brooks is a renowned Jewish actor born in Brooklyn, N.Y. “The event was designed to offer a relaxing atmosphere before students get back to another week of classes and stress,” Mr. Davidson said.
