Dr. Michael Jabot of the College of Education continues to travel the country this summer to share his expertise with science educators.

Dr. Jabot was invited to join the faculty of the National Science Resource Center’s National Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform (LASER) Science Education Strategic Planning Institute in Washington, D.C., held this month. He presented four sessions including, “Connecting Science and Literacy,” ”Strategies for the Implementation of District-Wide K-12 Science Education Professional Development Programs,” “How Students Learn and the Implications for an Effective Science Program,” and “Systemic Change and Reform of K-12 Science Education.” The institute helped to prepare teachers to implement research-based science education programs for all students within their communities.

On July 20 and 21, Dr. Jabot will travel to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor to conduct a two-day seminar on the development of teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge in physical science at the 2009 National Summer Institute for the American Association of Physics Teachers. The institute is an effort to develop a nationwide cadre of teacher-leaders trained to conduct workshops in regions throughout the U.S. This is the third component of the training offered to the group by Dr. Jabot which began in 2007 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and continued in 2008 at the University of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
