The Marketing and Communications Department is pleased to announce a new, robust campus calendar! “Events @ Fredonia” is at https://events.fredonia.edu and has a link on our homepage.

A year of planning, set-up, and configuration has gone into this project, led by Web Content Manager Jonathan Woolson using a service called Localist. The resulting "Events @ Fredonia" calendar is a major improvement over the previous public calendar.

Enhancements include a simpler, clean look with clear navigation; a showcase slideshow at the top of the homepage, featuring major campus events; users can easily share and promote the events they’re attending or interested in on social media; the ability to link from all ticketed events directly to the Fredonia Ticket Office so that members of the public can easily purchase tickets online; and the ability for calendar users to filter and sort events by type, location, department and in other ways.

The new "Events @ Fredonia" calendar is connected to the existing room reservation system, called EMS, so the way that everyone is used to reserving a room on campus hasn’t changed.

What has changed is the opportunity to “dress up” an event in "Events @ Fredonia" with complete descriptions, photos, hashtags, Facebook links, ticket costs and links, and weblinks. The more details and content you provide, the more likely an event will be seen on the "Featured Events" or "Trending" sections of the Events @ Fredonia homepage.

Even when a campus event does not require a reserved campus room or space, the staff can still make sure that every major campus moment is shown in "Events @ Fredonia" (i.e., move-in weekend, first day of semester classes, last day to apply for financial aid, final exams, etc).

You don’t have to be a user in EMS to contribute your event to the "Events @ Fredonia" calendar. On the top right of the calendar homepage is a big red button labeled “submit an event.” Anyway can submit details for any campus event - students, faculty, staff, etc. All submissions are reviewed and verified by the Marketing and Communications team before being published. If an event requires a reservation in EMS, the staff will point you to the right person to reserve your room.

Even as we launch, we continue to make changes and improvements to this initial 1.0 version of "Events @ Fredonia." Several key calendar managers on campus were trained this summer, and they helped us refine the way it works. As you start using the calendar, please let us know if something doesn’t work for you by sending an email to events@fredonia.edu. We will continue to make improvements to the new calendar in the coming semesters, but we believe that Events @ Fredonia 1.0 is a vast improvement from our previous, public-facing campus calendar.

A guide to help you submit your events is available in Fredonia Answers at: /events/help. If you have any questions, problems, or spot an error, please send us an email.
