The Ethos New Music Society will present the 10th annual NewSound Music Festival throughout February at SUNY Fredonia. This year’s festival will consist of five separate concerts and feature not only faculty, but also several world-renowned performers and composers.

Schedule of NewSound Festival:

  •  Wednesday Feb. 3: The Raschèr Saxophone Quartet will perform in Rosch Recital Hall at 8 p.m. The concert will feature a performance of Giya Kancheli’s “Amao Omi” with the Fredonia Chamber Singers and a new commissioned work by Dr. Rob Deemer, a SUNY Fredonia composition professor.   • Friday Feb. 5: SUNY Fredonia faculty members will perform several works of Paul Moravec, a Pulitzer-Prize winning composer, who will be on campus to attend the event. The concert will include two song cycles and excerpts from his new opera, “The Letter,” which was premiered in August 2009 by the Santa Fe Opera. The concert will take place in Rosch Recital Hall at 8 p.m.
     
  • Friday, Feb. 12: Pianist Hilary Demske, the Fredonia Faculty Woodwind Quintet and a new music ensemble under the direction of Dr. Deemer will perform three works by Grawemeyer Prize-winning composer George Tsontakis . The concert will be at 8 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall.
     
  • Friday Feb. 19: Composer Alexandra Gardner will join saxophonist Brian Sacawa and journalist/blogger Molly Sheridan for a concert in Rosch Recital Hall at 8 p.m. The concert will include Fredonia guitar professor James Piorkowski and the Fredonia Percussion Ensemble. Admission is free and open to the public.
     
  • Saturday Feb. 27: The SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble will end the NewSound festival in King Concert Hall. The concert begins at 8 p.m. where the ensemble will perform works by guest composers Steven Bryant and Jonathan Newman. Admission is free and open to the public.
    Admission for all concerts is $3 for students and $5 for the general public, unless noted.
