In order to ensure the opening of the SUNY Fredonia Williams Center in time for the fall 2012 semester, one lane of Old Main Drive, from Science Drive to Ring Road, will be closed to traffic beginning Dec. 23 through the end of March. Old Main Drive connects to the Village of Fredonia Temple Street at LoGrasso Hall and ends at the Williams Center.
As part of the Williams Center Rehabilitation Project, the lane closing will allow contractors to perform work at the support columns for the "spine," as the concrete walkway which connects Reed Library's plaza to the Williams Center's second floor is commonly known.
Traffic entering the campus from Temple Street at LoGrasso Hall (Old Main Drive) will continue to have access to Ring Road near the traffic circle at Mason Hall.
Traffic from areas near Dods Hall, Mason Hall, Rockefeller Art Center and Steele Hall, and from Ring Road will not have access to Old Main Drive, including areas near University Commons and the Residence Halls; please use Park Drive and follow the detour to Temple Street, then to Old Main Drive.
Detour signs will be in place to help guide people around campus.
The campus recommends using the main entrance at Central Avenue to access areas near Fenton, Houghton and Thompson halls, as well as the Rockefeller Arts Center. The Temple Street entrance at Park Drive (near Hendrix Hall) is the best option to access areas near Dods, Mason and Steele Halls.
Campus officials encourage visitors to arrive early for events during this temporary change, and reminds visitors of the Park & Ride service which is available to all campus visitors from the Administrative Office Complex lot, located on the north end of campus, off of Ring Road.
