The student-run Performing Arts Company at SUNY Fredonia is presenting the play by David Ives, "Don Juan in Chicago" this weekend in Bartlett Theatre.
The show opens Friday, Sept. 30, at 8 p.m., and continues Saturday at 8 p.m., and closes Sunday with a 2 p.m. matinee. Tickets are $6 for the public and $3 for students and can be purchased at the Central Ticket Office.
The show is a comedic retelling of the legend of Don Juan, a very attractive and intelligent 30-year-old virgin in 1599 Seville, Spain, who cuts a deal with the Devil for immortality to have the time to discover the truths and meaning of life.
In return, the Devil requires that he seduce a different woman every night before midnight.
The Don Juan tale has been told many times by different authors. In the "Chicago" version, we fast forward to modern day Chicago where Don has not had the time to do or study any of the things he wanted to, and, as he struggles to find another woman, he questions if hell could be as bad as the shallow life he is leading.
While he contemplates this, a series of very strange characters continue to "farce in and out of doors" trying to find that one secret to life the human soul searches for the most--love.
