Dr. Paula Holcomb |
The SUNY Fredonia Wind Ensemble will present its final concert of the year under the baton of Dr. Paula Holcomb in King Concert Hall, Rockefeller Arts Center on Saturday, April 14 at 8 p.m.
The concert features Concerto Competition winner, Maggie Moriarty, clarinetist, performing "Black Dog" by Scott McAllister. A native of Medina, Ms. Moriarty studies with clarinet professor Andrew Seigel.
Opening the concert will be assistant conductor, Erik Kalish, who is pursuing his graduate conducting degree, conducting the first movement of Beethoven's, "Octet." The Ensemble will continue with the beautiful, colorful timbres of "Colonial Song" which was inspired by the composer Percy Grainger's native land, Australia.
The concert will close with "Child's Garden of Dreams," by David Maslanka, an epic work based on writings by a ten year old child as documented by Carl Jung in, "A Man and His Symbols." It promises to be an exciting evening of compelling music making.
