SUNY Fredonia’s Performance Arts Company (PAC) will perform an experimental version of “Fat Pig” Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
Written by American playwright Neil LaBute, "Fat Pig" challenges and questions the social perception of beauty. It explores people's tendencies to create stereotypes and judge one another.
The story follows a typical, good-looking business man who falls in love with a plus-size librarian. The man experiences doubt and personal challenges due to the judgments of friends and onlookers who form an inconsistency in the compatibility of the couple based on outward appearances. Ultimately, he is forced to choose between love or his friends' acceptance.
“Fat Pig” is directed by senior theater major, Scott Malkovsky, making his directing debut with the PAC. Malkovsky has participated in several Theater and Dance productions and is also a member of Random Acts.
The cast includes Jillian Gerba, Shawn Farrell, Mike Smith, and Maura Nolan. The stage manager is Bethany Sortman and the props and sets have been built by Rachel Elizabeth Fisher, Marisa Curso, Colin Chauche and Theresa Pierce.
“Fat Pig” is free and open to the public. PAC is a student organization that provides an opportunity for students to be creative and produce innovative performances that expand their realm of theatrical arts.
