President Dennis L. Hefner will participate on a panel at the regional event, “What the New Era of Reform Means for Higher Education,” to be hosted by the College Board and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at the State University of New York at Albany.

The event will bring together policy experts and education leaders to discuss the challenges facing higher education and President Barak Obama’s bold goals for educational attainment.

Chancellor Zimpher will introduce the panel, who will address the question, “What the Administration’s New Focus on Higher Education Means for the Future of American Colleges and Universities.” In addition to President Hefner, panelists will include Joanna Duncan-Poitier, the chancellor’s deputy for the Education Pipeline of SUNY; Shirley Ort, associate provost and director of Scholarships and Student Aid for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Zakiya Smith, an assistant director for the U.S. Department of Education; and New York State Assemblywoman Deborah Glick, who serves as chair of the New York State Assembly’s Higher Education Committee. Congressman Tim Bishop has also been invited to participate.
