SUNY Fredonia is working to transition to a smoke-free campus by instituting a program called, “Quit and Win.” The free, 10-week tobacco quit program offered by the Counseling Center will help students, faculty, and staff combat the use of tobacco products.

Participants who join the program will be offered support services through the New York Smokers Quitline and be eligible to win tobacco-free products. Prizes include a $250 gift card to Amazon.

The Tobacco Free Taskforce is a pilot program being used by SUNY Fredonia to help create a tobacco-free campus. During the transition time, signage near smoking areas will be changed to indicate the campus will be tobacco-free beginning Jan. 1, 2014. Until that time, tobacco use is permitted only in areas that are at least 25 to 50 feet away from all campus buildings. SUNY Fredonia will soon be joining the list of growing colleges and universities around the U.S that have adopted a tobacco-free policy on campus.

Persons interested in participating in the program should sign up at www.fredonia.edu/tobaccofree, no later than Thursday Nov.7.

The program is provided by the SUNY Fredonia Counseling Center and the Tobacco Free Taskforce.
