Maryanne Long, a May 2009 graduate of SUNY Fredonia, has been elected to serve as the sole student representative of the Golden Key Honor Society International Leadership Council.

Golden Key is a premiere international honor society in which membership is gained by invitation only and is extended to the top 15 percent of juniors and seniors. The International Leadership Council oversees the academic integrity of the Society, approves institutions for chartering of chapters and oversees all chapter activity for Golden Key members.

Ms. Long, a native of Buffalo, served as secretary of SUNY Fredonia’s Golden Key Chapter during 2008.  She graduated in May with a degree in Business Administration-Finance, and a minor in Economics. She was also among the finalists for the 2009 Lanford Prize, considered the top recognition awarded by SUNY Fredonia to a member of its senior class. It recognizes a graduating senior who has exhibited balanced achievement and exemplified the university's ideals.

Currently she is a Graduate Assistant for the University at Buffalo's Division of Athletics/Business Operations, where she is also pursuing a Master’s of Business Administration. Among her immediate duties with the society, she will attend the organization's international conference in Orlando in late July.

Associate Professor Ann Carden, APR, within the Department of Communication, and Assistant Director of Campus Life Mark Suida serve as the advisors to SUNY Fredonia’s Golden Key Chapter, which was formed on campus in 2005.  In the fall of 2008, more than 100 Fredonia students were inducted, which brings with it such benefits as scholarships, career assistance with internships and job placement, and academic recognition.

Golden Key has emerged as one of the most dynamic, forward-thinking organizations in higher education. The Honor Society has a presence at more than 370 chapters at colleges and universities in seven countries: Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
