Fredonia, N.Y. — November 5, 2008 — SUNY Fredonia’s American Studies program, together with the class, “Sustainability and America” (AMST 399), led by Dr. Christina Jarvis, is hosting a movie night and panel discussion regarding recycling.
The event will take place on Monday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. in room 209 of McEwen Hall on the Fredonia campus, beginning with a panel discussion on recycling and American sustainability.
All students, faculty, staff and community members are invited to attend this free event. and all others who are interested in learning more about how to conserve the planet, how to properly recycle, and what the campus and country are doing about recycling are welcomed as well.
The panel will include Wendy Sanfilippo, Chautauqua County’s Recycling Coordinator; Kevin Cloos, Head of Building Services and Grounds at SUNY Fredonia; and Robin Hoepfinger, a student representative on the campus Sustainability Committee.
The evening will conclude with a screening of the documentary, “Trashed,” which scrutinizes the nation’s landfills, illustrates how much waste and litter Americans produce daily, and provides information on how citizens can learn to recycle and make the world more sustainable.
American Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that examines the historical development and contemporary status of American cultures, including those of the American hemisphere. The program has existed at Fredonia for more than 35 years. Major and minor degrees in American Studies are designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the variety of American cultures.
