The 16th annual Fredonia Summer Band Camp will be held from Sunday, June 25 through Saturday, July 1.

Music Professor Raymond Stewart, in photo, will direct the Summer Band Camp.

Set on the beautiful campus of SUNY Fredonia, the Fredonia Summer Band Camp offers a friendly and relaxed setting for the musical growth of students.  The camp takes advantage of the university’s first-rate facilities and world-class teachers.  Outstanding performers and teachers provide unique opportunities for learning, improving technical skills and expanding musicality.

Visit the Summer Band Camp website.

Students who are currently enrolled in grades 8 through 12 are invited to attend the Fredonia Summer Band Camp.  In addition to band rehearsals, chamber ensembles and jazz groups, campers receive daily training in musicianship classes (music theory, conducting, jazz improvisation, and/or music technology), participate in master classes, attend special evening recitals, and have time for individual practice and recreation.   The Fredonia Faculty Brass, Woodwind and Percussion ensembles will be featured during evening recitals.

Raymond Stewart, director of the SUNY Fredonia Concert Band and Assistant Professor of Tuba, will return to direct the Concert Band.  Mr. Stewart is also principal tuba of the American Composers Orchestra and a member of the internationally acclaimed brass chamber music group Meridian Arts Ensemble.

The Jazz Band will again be directed by Bruce Johnstone, Director of Jazz Studies at SUNY Fredonia.  Mr. Johnstone, a well-known saxophonist, has performed with Maynard Ferguson, Dextor Gordon, The Woody Herman Band and many others.

In addition, numerous members of the School of Music faculty and special guests will round out the summer camp teaching roster including: Dr. Susan Royal, flute; Dr. Sarah Hamilton, oboe; Mr. Amrom Chodos, clarinet; Dr. Janis McKay, bassoon; Dr. Marc Guy, horn; Dr. Wildy Zumwalt, saxophone; Mr. Ben Albright, trumpet; Mr. Carl Mazzio, low brass; and Mr. Bill Sallak, percussion.

Registration for the Fredonia Summer Band Camp is only $595, which includes housing, meals, and a camp t-shirt.  Commuters pay only $345 (meals not included).

A limited number of scholarships are offered based on the instrumentation needs of the camp - most often for oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, French horn, and low brass.
