Chamber Music

Rosch Recital Hall

Retro, a Fredonia School of Music chamber group dedicated to the performance of high quality 20th century classical works, will perform a concert under the baton of Professor Rob Deemer on Sunday, Oct. 4, of William Walton's "Façade: An Entertainment," with poetry by Edith Sitwell.

The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in Rosch Recital Hall. Admission is free.

Retro is comprised of members of the music faculty and is directed by Mary Marden Cobb. The performers are voice faculty members Patricia Corron and Joe Dan Harper, Co-reciters; Susan Royal, flute/piccolo; Andrew Seigel, clarinet/bass clarinet; Wildy Zumwalt, alto saxophone; Roderick MacDonald, trumpet; Karolyn Stonefelt, percussion; and guest student Emily Grissing will perform the cello part.

The text is based on Sitwell’s childhood. Set by Walton around 1921-2, it is regarded as one of his first major works, showing influences of both jazz and the romantic idiom.

The program will open with a short presentation by musicology professor, Dr. Michael Markham.
