Proceeds from the sale were "$5,500. All sales and donations went to the Dallas K. Beal Community Access Fund.
Elizabeth "Kris" Beal, wife of the late Dallas K. Beal, former SUNY Fredonia President, is keeping her husband’s legacy alive by donating her watercolors to SUNY Fredonia to benefit the Dallas K. Beal Community Access Fund.
The public is invited to attend an opening reception for the 14-day gallery showing on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Art Gallery of the Rockefeller Arts Center. Those who attend the opening reception of the Elizabeth "Kris" Beal Watercolors Exhibit will have the first opportunity to view -- and to purchase -- Mrs. Beal’s work.
The exhibit, which runs through Saturday, Nov. 13, features 42 watercolors she painted depicting areas in which she has lived and visited.
All proceeds from the sale of the paintings will benefit the Dallas K. Beal Community Access Fund, which has allowed Rockefeller Arts Center to purchase tickets for over 500 low-income individuals—mostly children and young people – since it was established in 2002 in memory of the university’s late friend, benefactor, and former president.
Anyone interested in making a direct donation to the Dallas K. Beal Community Access Fund can send a check payable to the Fredonia College Foundation, 272 Central Avenue, Fredonia, NY 14063. Donations may also be made online at www.fredonia.edu/give
The Rockefeller Arts Center is home to a concert hall, two theaters, one main gallery and one student gallery. The center hosts over 170 public events each year.
The Elizabeth "Kris" Beal Watercolors Exhibit will open with a celebration including music, food and beverages. Fredonia alumna Cathy Marion, ’79, and her husband, Jesse, have generously donated wine for the event. Cathy is a member of the Fredonia College Foundation board of directors, and has endowed a fund through the foundation to support the Art Gallery.
Mrs. Beal and the late Dallas K. Beal have been generous supporters of SUNY Fredonia in many ways, including the establishment of scholarships through the Fredonia College Foundation.
They endowed the Dallas K. Beal and Elizabeth W. Beal Award, presented each year to an undergraduate, and the Jessica Mary Beal Scholarship, which honors the memory of their granddaughter who lost her battle with cancer.
Dr. Beal was president of SUNY Fredonia from 1970 to 1984, and interim president in 1996.
