Inspired by “The World’s Largest Paint Party,” DAYGLOW, the SUNY Fredonia S.I.F.E. (Students in Free Enterprise) team presents, “Black Out, Go Green!”, an energy-waste education initiative, on Monday, Feb. 6. The S.I.F.E. team is asking students to turn off ALL lights and unnecessary appliances on that day for half an hour, from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
During the student blackout, participants may head to the SAFE ZONE, in Dods Hall, where they can socialize and listen to a live performance by the Percussion Guild.
The first 100 people to arrive will receive their own tube of green glow-in-the dark body paint, to paint themselves before entering the SAFE ZONE. As an alternative to the body paint, a green LED glow stick will also be available to signify the energy-saving initiative.
At the time of the blackout, Facilities Services will measure the difference in energy usage from normal usage on campus. Students who reside off-campus are also invited to the free event.
This “Go Green” initiative by the S.I.F.E. team is one of six community-based programs for the 2011-12 academic year. The S.I.F.E. team will be travelling to New York City later this semester to compete in S.I.F.E.’s Regional Competition.
