A team of marketing students has kick-started a campaign for Shorewood Country Club.
SUNY Fredonia students, all taking the course taught by Professor Joseph Izzo entitled, Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE), are aiming to increase membership at the club, especially of a younger age group. Team members are Daniel Mazurkiewicz, Jessyca Riehle, Kevin Riley, and Kevin Scully.
“The campaign will help increase club membership that has been in constant decline for several years now,” Ms. Riehle said. She pointed out that membership decline is plaguing country clubs across the country.
“The aging population has forced country clubs to change their marketing strategies and find innovative ways to reach new members,” she said. Working with Shorewood Country Club, the students are gathering a database of perspective members throughout the area and creating a demographic profile of future members. A new option for membership, called a “Youngership,” will offer greater discounts to potential newcomers.
“It is a great experience to bring real business into the classroom,” Mr. Scully, senior marketing major, said.
SIFE is a nonprofit organization that gives students the tools to learn the free enterprise system in a real working situation. SIFE challenges students on more than 800 college campuses nationwide.
