Student musicians from The State University of New York at Fredonia School of Music are scheduled to kick off the 9th annual season of the Children’s Concert Series at Dunkirk Free Library at 536 Central Ave. on Saturday, Sept. 27.
The first set of free performances will occur at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and will feature the Fredonia World Mallets Ensemble.The Children’s Concert Series performances are designed to introduce young audiences to musical instruments and offer the opportunity to interact with the student musicians. Within this child-friendly atmosphere, all are welcome to sit close to the musicians and engage in active listening, moving and performing of the music.
With the guidance of Fredonia School of Music professors and co-organizers, Drs. Jill Reese and Sarah Hamilton, Fredonia student musicians have successfully brought music into the lives of many local children. “For the young audience and the performers, music becomes a playmate to join in a thrilling adventure," said Dr. Reese.
The Fredonia World Mallets Ensemble consists of student musicians Alec Dube (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), Paul Chambers (Kingston) and Daniel Gillen (Commack).
The Children's Concert Series is part of the Musical Journeys Program, a community outreach project offered by the Fredonia School of Music. Select student ensembles perform half-hour concerts on four Saturday mornings. Future concerts are scheduled on Oct. 25, March 7 and April 25.
