The Office of Volunteer and Community Service, along with its Volunteer Services Advisory Committee, chaired by Joyce Harvard Smith, will sponsor its seventh annual Community Service Fair at SUNY Fredonia on Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Williams Center Multipurpose Room.
By putting students in touch with opportunities for volunteerism, the Fair is one of the many ways in which the Office of Volunteer and Community Services seeks to build partnerships between the campus and the community. Just last year, SUNY Fredonia students worked more than 14,000 hours as volunteers in the community.
Students will have an opportunity to meet with a variety of local service agencies to discuss, learn about and sign-up for volunteer opportunities at the prospective sites.
Some of the participating agencies are: The American Red Cross, Campus and Community Children’s Center, Camp Gross, Literacy Volunteers, Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels, Lakeshore and Chautauqua County Humane Society, Chautauqua County Rural Ministry (Friendly Kitchen/Garment Gallery), YWCA Westfield, WCA Home, Boys and Girls Club of Northern Chautauqua County, Habitat for Humanity, Adams Art Gallery, Saint Columban’s on the Lake, Trooper Toys for Tots, Centaur Stride, Chautauqua Alcoholism Substance Abuse Council, Compeer Chautauqua, Chautauqua Adult Day Care and more.
Information about the various agencies will be made available to students through the fair. For information regarding this event or volunteering, contact Joyce Harvard Smith, Coordinator of Volunteer and Community Services at ext. 3690.
