Over the Great Blue is the next program of the International Brown Bag luncheon series on Monday, April 20 from noon to 12:50 in Fenton Hall's English Reading Room (Fenton 127). Senior English majors Sarah Schwab and Jenna Letersky will discuss their experience during last year's Semester in London.
The subjects of the two-week summer curriculum were Women’s Literature in London and works by Virginia Woolf taught by past and current English chairs Dr. Jeanette McVicker and Dr. Adrienne McCormick. They will consider the concept of "war" and "empire" and how different a feeling it is in London. They will discuss the London bombing and 9/11. Along with this theme, they will discuss Virginia Woolf's Three Guineas.
Highgate Cemetery was a really powerful experience. With this scene, they will discuss the book, Falling Angels, by Tracy Chevalier.
Last, they will discuss Stonehenge. Although there wasn't any specific literature that accompanied this, it added to the "feel" of the entire London experience.
