Finely crafted speeches that either inform or persuade will be the order of the day at SUNY Fredonia’s annual Public Speaking Competition on Tuesday, April 17, at 7 p.m., in 202 McEwen.
Top prizes in each category are $150 for first place and $100 for the runner-up spot. Over $500 in total cash prizes will be awarded. A popular vote winner in both categories will also declared based on audience evaluation, so students are invited to bring their friends. Speeches are to run six to eight minutes in length.
The competition is sponsored by the SUNY Fredonia chapters of Applied Communication Association and Public Relations Student Society of America and funded by the Corydon Crowell Memorial Fund, Golden Key and Student Association.
