SUNY Fredonia 2011 graduate Colin Chauche, whose lighting design skills were in full display in the spring production of “The Sound of Music,” has received the 2011 iSquint.net Student Design Competition.
Chauce is the first winner of this award, which carries an impressive prize package that includes a professional license of Vectorworks with Renderworks, a personal license of Lighwright 5 and a single license of Field Templates SoftSymbols V3.
Additionally, his work can be seen worldwide in iSquint, a premier theatre lighting blog that covers new products, services and trends within the industry.
The contest was judged by a panel of lighting designers that included: Kevin Linzey, VectorWorks; John McKernon, developer of Lightwright; Steve Shelley, of Field Template; and Gregg Hillmar, author of Light Plot Deconstructed.
Candidates for the award submitted light plots, paperwork and light renderings.
Chauche, who earned a BFA in Theatrical Production and Design, with a concentration in lighting design, will work as a lighting design intern at the Playhouse on the Square in Memphis. He will serve as a lighting assistant for several main stage shows as well as a lighting designer for several smaller shows.
