In August, the 37-year-old nationally-accredited campus day care program moved into its new facility at the corner of Brigham Rd. and Temple St. |
The newly constructed Campus and Community Children’s Center will be open for public tours on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 10 a.m. until noon.
The $4.6 million facility is located on the western edge of the campus at the intersection of Temple Street and Brigham Road, and now provides infant care, in addition to its toddler and pre-school care.
CCCC has been serving the community for 37 years and moved into the new free-standing building in July.
The center offers childcare, not only to campus employees and students, but also to anyone within the greater Dunkirk/Fredonia community, and is excited to have a facility and grounds dedicated exclusively to its own programming and activities.
With 16,000 square feet of space, the new center houses a large gross motor skills room (essentially a small gymnasium) to accommodate family activities as well as play activities when inclement weather limits access to outside playgrounds. It also features two infant rooms, one toddler room, two multi-age rooms, three observation rooms, administrative offices, a teacher planning room, a small kitchen and a lobby/receptionist area. A separate drop-off and pick-up point for parents is accessible from Brigham Road.
The center, which annually serves 150 to 175 children, operates early childhood and school-age programs. Students from SUNY Fredonia and Jamestown Community College utilize it as a training site for field experiences in Education, Sociology and Psychology.
The new center that opened in July meets the requirements of a “Silver” rating from the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for a “green” environmentally sustainable construction.
A long-time leader in the early childhood field, CCCC was the first center in the Labor Management network and one of the first centers in the SUNY system to receive national accreditation from the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association of Educators of Young Children (NAEYC). This program was developed to assure high standards in early childhood programs. CCCC has been accredited five times.
In 2003, the center’s School Age Programs earned NSACA accreditation (National School Age Care Alliance, which is now the National After School Association NAA). This represents national recognition for quality school age programming. CCCC is the first school age program in all of Western NY to earn this accreditation. These programs are located on the campus of the Wheelock Primary School in Fredonia.
